Paul Thomas Anderson’s Next Film Delayed to 2026?

December 30, 2024 Jordan Ruimy

Is my hearing right? Has “The Town” podcast’s Matt Belloni just reported that Paul Thomas Anderson’s next film was “punted” to 2026 by Warner Bros? That’s what he’s saying at the 13-minute mark.

A few months back, I had heard some rumblings that PTA’s film might move to June or July, and then Jeff Sneider said he’d been hearing about a possible fall release. However, this delay to 2026 is certainly surprising. I reached out to Warner Bros, but they didn’t comment on this story.

For now, PTA’s film has an August 8, 2025 release date. I do not expect that to stick. There have also been whispers that Zach Cregger’s “Weapons” and Emerald Fennell’s “Wuthering Heights” might be moved to 2025. We’re looking at a major shakeup in the coming weeks on the Warner calendar.

PTA’s film, which might be titled “One Battle After Another,” stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Regina Hall, Chase Infiniti, Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Wood Harris, Teyana Taylor, and Alana Haim. No plot details have been revealed about it, but reports are indicating that the film might have cost anywhere between $130M to $175M.
