Adam McKay Warns Trump's America Might Ban ‘Wicked' in “3-5 Years"

December 24, 2024 Jordan Ruimy

You gotta hand it to Adam McKay, the man is certifiably living in his own universe. He can’t grasp any kind of reality, except for the one he’s living in.

Yes, the “Don’t Look Up” writer-director is at it again, warning us, on social media, that the way things are going in the United States, a film like “Wicked” will be banned in a couple of years. lol.

First off, here’s McKay raving about “Wicked,” ironically, on Elon Musk’s X:

On a pure storytelling level “Wicked Part 1” is right up there as one of the most radical big studio Hollywood movies ever made. I know Part 2 swings back to the center a bit but Part 1 is nakedly about radicalization in the face of careerism, fascism, propaganda.

McKay goes on to compare ‘Wicked’ to classics such as “Bridge on the River Kwai,” “The Searchers,” and “Citizen Kane.” He adds that if the upcoming Trump presidency is as devious as he believes it to be then “Wicked” could be banned in “3-5 years.”

What’s really striking about Wicked Part 1 is that it’s coming out NOW when America has never been more right wing and propagandized. And yes, I know the theatrical production and the book are much older so part of the timing is a coincidence but still […] If America keeps going on the track it is I wouldn’t be surprised to see the movie banned in 3-5 years.

Yes, studios actually give this guy hundreds of millions of dollars to make movies. Then again, he recently had his climate change movie canceled by Netflix. That one was going to star Amy Adams, Robert Downey Jr, and Sam Rockwell. No word yet on why it was canceled, but apparently the budget was going to be $200M+.

In all honesty, I hope McKay is alright. After all, it’s the holidays, a time to leave your troubled behind and enjoy the company of your loved ones. Maybe play some good music in the background while you’re at it, but definitely not The Beatles.
