James Mangold's ‘Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi' Sets Fall 2025 Shoot

December 23, 2024 Jordan Ruimy

Recently, THR had “House of Cards” creator Beau Willimon hired to write the script for James Mangold’s “Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi.” Furthermore, a listing now has ‘Dawn of the Jedi’ shooting next fall.

Mangold is expected to begin focusing on the film after the release of “A Complete Unknown.” It will likely be his next project. Whether it’s the next Star Wars movie going into production remains to be seen as Shawn Levy’s currently in prep to shoot his upcoming Rey trilogy.

There is currently a mysterious Star Wars movie scheduled for release on December 2027. Lucasfilm/Disney have not given us any details as to what it might be, but my best guess is that it’s probably Levy or Mangold’s projects.

‘Dawn of The Jedi’ will explore the origins of the Jedi, taking place in the earliest era in the “Star Wars” franchise. This film is set 25,000 years in the past. Willimon (who also wrote “Andor”) was recently tapped to co-write ‘Dawn of the Jedi’ with Mangold, and his talented presence has piqued the curiosity of many fans.

Lucasfilm hasn’t released a Star Wars movie since 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker.” With Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s planned Rey movie recently put “on hold,” Disney has been betting all of its chips on streaming’s ‘Andor’ and ‘The Mandalorian.’ It’s no coincidence then that they have decided to release a ‘Mandalorian’ movie, directed by Jon Favreau, set to hit theaters on May 22, 2026.

With the exception of Mangold and Levy, there are at least five other ‘Star Wars’ projects currently in development, from directors Obaid-Chimoy, Dave Filoni, Donald Glover, Taika Waititi and Patty Jenkins.
