Director Mamoru Hosoda’s “Scarlet” has landed at Sony. The film will receive global distribution via Sony Pictures, with a U.S. theatrical release planned for winter 2025. Toho will handle Japanese theatrical distribution.
“Scarlet” centers on a princess who transcends time and space. Mamoru’s last film was 2021’s “Belle,” which premiered at Cannes to ecstatic reactions, and became his highest-grossing film to date. To say “Scarlet” is being highly anticipated by animation fans would be an understatement.
Mamoru was previously Oscar-nominated in the Best Animated Feature category for his eighth film, 2018’s “Mirai.” His other notable works include “The Boy and the Beast,” “Summer Wars,” and “Wolf Children.”
I’ve narrowed down the hundreds upon hundreds of films that will screen this fall to 34 titles—vote for your most anticipated.
