Trailer for A24's ‘Death of a Unicorn' — John Carpenter's Score Replaced

February 27, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

A trailer has been released for A24’s “Death of a Unicorn.” I have not been hearing good things about this film, shot in July 2023, which has test screened a handful of times already. The trailer hasn’t tampered down any of these doubts.

Alex Scharfman’s debut feature, starring Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega, concerns a father and daughter who "accidentally hit and kill a unicorn while en route to a weekend retreat," where the father's billionaire boss (played by Richard Grant) "seeks to exploit the creature’s miraculous curative properties.”

As he was busy playing video games in his basement, John Carpenter managed to complete a side project: composing the score for “Death of A Unicorn.” However, a few weeks ago, I heard that Dan Romer and Giosuè Greco would be taking over scoring duties. Carpenter’s score got nixed.

“Death of A Unicorn” is produced by Ari Aster, and also stars Téa Leoni, Will Poulter, Anthony Carrigan, Sunita Mani, Jessica Hynes, and Stephen Park. The film premieres March 8 at SXSW. It hits theaters March 28.
