NEON Reteams With Maika Monroe on ‘Watcher' Director's ‘Brides'

December 18, 2024 Jordan Ruimy

UPDATE: NEON has decided to reteam with “Longlegs” star Maika Monroe, and hopped onboard her upcoming film, “Brides.”

EARLIER: Maika Monroe is set to lead Chloe Okuno’s horror “Brides.” Monroe and Okuno previously teamed up on the underrated 2022 film “Watcher” (via Deadline). The film is set to start production in Spring 2025.

Described as a “gothic, glamorous, and gory” tale that will “flip Bram Stoker’s narrative on its head, exploring the struggle between societal repression and carnal desire.” Here’s the synopsis:

Set in 1960s Italy, Sally Bishop (Monroe) and her husband travel to a remote villa in the wake of Sally’s nervous breakdown. The villa’s owner, a mysterious count, takes a peculiar interest in Sally. But he gets far more than he anticipated when Sally’s feminist chaos is added to his perfect, violent Eden of vampire brides.

If you haven’t seen “Watcher,” it’s well worth your time. An impeccable Polanski-inspired film, filled with dread and darkly-tinged atmosphere. It came and went, with not much attention paid to it. A real shame. It did eventually gain some “success” in the Netflix top 10.
