Wayans Brothers' ‘Scary Movie 6' in the Works ...

October 29, 2024 Jordan Ruimy

A ‘Scary Movie’ reboot had been previously announced at CinemaCon, with Paramount and Miramax onboard, but the last thing we expected was for the original architects of the satirical franchise to return for this project.

Marlon, Shawn and Keenen Ivory Wayans wrote and directed the first two films. They’re all coming back for ‘Scary Movie 6.’ No word yet on casting or production details, but expect this one to rev up quickly, and potentially start shooting next year.

The first five instalments in the ‘Scary Movie’ franchise grossed close to $900M worldwide. The two recurrent actresses in these films were Anna Farris and Regina King — they absolutely should be lured to come back. The Wayans left the franchise by the third film, with writers such as Craig Mazin and David Zucker taking over screenwriting duties.

The Wayans were ready to come back for ‘Scary Movie 3,’ but Marlon confirmed that they felt insulted when producers offered them the same "crappy" deal they'd gotten for the first two movies. In reference to the sexual assault allegations that led to Harvey Weinstein’s legal demise, Wayans suggested he and his brothers were also "molested in them deals."
