Janelle Monáe to Star in Jordan Peele's Next Film?

October 2, 2024 Jordan Ruimy

There is definitely a movie brewing between Janelle Monáe and Jordan Peele. Speaking with PEOPLE, Monáe is revealing that she and Peele have "spoken about making [a] film" together, as recently as this year.

"We texted a few months ago, and he and I both said we're going to make our movie. So I think it will happen. It's just timing," Monáe says.

While Monáe can't hint at anything specific about their in-the-works film ("I've learned to make sure that it's done before you mention it," she says they both “love the horror genre, we love the psychological-thriller genre, and we can't wait to work with one another.”

Monáe is coming off her strong performance in 2022’s “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.” She was impressive in that film, carrying it on her shoulders as the de facto lead to Daniel Craig’s Detective Benoit. Her other screen credits include “Hidden Figures,” “Moonlight” and “Harriet.”

Meanwhile, Peele’s latest comes with total and utter secrecy, and we probably won’t know what it’s about for a while. There’s been no intel about who might star in it, let alone any plot details or when it might start production. All we know is that it’s set to release on October 23, 2026.

Some have theorized that it might be a sequel to “Get Out,” but I can’t see that happening, just yet. Peele had also teased last year that he wanted to make a sequel to “Nope.” I wouldn’t bet on that either. It’s probably another original story and that October date does hint at a horror film, just in time for Halloween.
