Leigh Whannell’s ‘Wolf Man’ Rated “R” for “Bloody Violent Content” & “Grisly Images”

October 16, 2024 Jordan Ruimy

Here’s some good news. Leigh Whannell’s “Wolf Man” has been rated “R” for “bloody violent content, grisly images and some language.”

“Wolf Man,” which stars Julia Garner, Christopher Abbott, Sam Jaeger and Matilda Firth, was recently described by Whannell as a straight up horror movie. I would bet some good money that Whannell’s film will be a massive improvement over the lame 2010 remake starring Benicio del Toro. Here’s the synopsis:

Wolf Man is the blood-chilling reimagining of the classic monster pic that will leave you on the edge of your seat as you witness a man and his family being stalked and terrorized by a lethal predator.

I’ve already mentioned how talented a filmmaker Whannell is — he has a ton of potential. In 2020’s “The Invisible Man,” Whannell brought a new kind of energy to old material, turning the classic story into an eerie Cronenberg-ian nightmare. Whannell’s previous film was the ultra-underrated low-budget sci-fi “Upgrade,” released in 2018, which again borrowed heavily from the hyper-violence of Paul Verhoeven and the body horror of David Cronenberg,

Back in March, Universal announced that “Wolf Man” would delay its original 2024 release by three months and would now open wide on January 17, 2025. It had previously been scheduled for a pre-Halloween release on October 25, 2024. Production on “Wolf Man” wrapped in May.
