David Fincher’s ‘The Killer’ Screens at Venice, 74 on Metacritic

September 3, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

UPDATE: Raves coming in from Deadline, The Guardian, The Wrap, The Daily Beast, Time, Screen and The Telegraph.

There are also plenty of critics who were left disappointed. Mixed (and semi-positive) reviews from Variety, Vanity Fair, IndieWire, Evening Standard, WhyNow, Little White Lies, BBC and The Playlist.

The film has a 74 on Metacritic, based on 13 reviews. It is not set to be screened again until October, that’s when it premieres at the BFI London Film Festival. It will be available to stream via Netflix on November 10th.

EARLIER: The day has arrived. David Fincher’s “The Killer” screened this morning at Venice. The review embargo should be lifting at around 3PM ET. Now, what I’m hearing … mostly good things. Nothing that would indicate that this is one of Fincher’s best. A strong slowburn, I was told. A generic script elevated by Fincher’s direction.
