Matthew Vaughn Rumored as “Top Choice" to Direct James Bond

September 14, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

After Christopher Nolan, Denis Villeneuve and Danny Boyle, here’s another name that is added to the list of potential Bond directors.

We already heard the rumors that Matthew Vaughn, who is, sadly, not as talented as the above-mentioned, had discussions with Bond producer Barbara Brocolli. In fact, Daniel Richtman is now saying that Vaughn is the “top choice” to helm the next installment of this franchise. That is what I would call a downgrade.

No offense to Vaughn, but there are better filmmakers out there to take on Bond. He’s the director behind the three ‘Kingsman’ movies, “Kick-Ass,” “X-Men: First Class” and “Argylle.” A few of those are actually good (here’s looking at you “Kick-Ass”) but this doesn’t get me at all excited.

After some discussions with him, has Brocolli finally given up on Nolan? She tends to be very controlling when it comes to the creative vision of her Bond movies. Nolan, on the other hand, wants total creative freedom and he’s stated that publicly — from the casting of the next 007 to the story, and that’s something Broccoli has never done before.
