Lars Von Trier: “With Any Luck, I Should Still Have A Few Decent Movies Left in Me”

August 13, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

Lars von Trier is looking for a “girlfriend/muse”. That’s what the renowned filmmaker said in an Instagram video he posted this weekend.

In the short clip, Von Trier openly, and honestly, talks about his search for love. In The Danish filmmaker starts by setting a few things straight about himself:

I am 67 years old. I have Parkinson's, OCD and currently controlled alcoholism. In short, with any luck I should still have a few decent movies left in me.

The "Kingdom of Exodus" and "Nymphomaniac" director says that without having the slightest knowledge of social media, he is now trying to find a girlfriend via the Internet. He claims that, on a good day, from time to time, he can make for quite the cheerful partner.

If you are interested, von Trier posted a contact email (bill.mrk.lars@gmail.com).

Last August, Von Trier announced that he’d been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at the age of 66. It was shattering news. He’s one of the great filmmakers of the last 30 or so years, definitely one of the most influential.

It was tough seeing Von Trier shaking during his last interview, with a Danish media outlet. We all hoped he had a few more provocative films left in him. The fact that he says in his Instagram post that he, hopefully, has “a few decent movies” left in him is a positive development.

Von Trier established himself as one of the great auteurs of world cinema thanks to films such as “Breaking the Waves,” “Melancholia,” “Dancer in the Dark” and “Dogville.” The third season of his ‘Kingdom’ series premiered at the Venice Film Festival last fall.
