‘Star Wars: New Jedi Order,’ Starring Daisy Ridley as Rey, Shooting in April 2024

June 22, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

Just as Daniel Richtman has reported about a new Star Wars film, starring Rey (Daisy Ridley), also comes a peculiar posting in this week’s edition of Production Weekly.

The description states that this latest Disney/Star Wars flick will start shooting in April 2024. Here’s the synopsis given:

Set roughly 15 years after Rey’s victory over Palpatine and the end of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The sequel delves into Rey's courageous endeavor to restore the Jedi Order, where she assumes the role of a mentor to two promising young students—a girl and a boy. As their training progresses, it becomes evident that the girl possesses an extraordinary abilities, destined to emerge as the future leader.

The film is titled “Star Wars: New Jedi Order.” It is set for a May 22, 2026 release date.

The good news is that Steven Knight is writing the new movie, while Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will be taking over directing duties.

Who is Obaid-Chinoy? She’s a Pakistani-Canadian filmmaker who directed Disney’s “Ms. Marvel” and is also known for her activist work in films that highlight gender inequality against women.

There hasn’t been an actual Star Wars movie since 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker.” A planned trilogy from ‘The Last Jedi’ director Rian Johnson, originally announced in 2017, has been put in the backburner. Also, a few months ago, Star Wars projects from Benioff/Weiss, Kevin Feige and Patty Jenkins were nixed by LucasFilm CEO Kathleen Kennedy.

There are plenty of fans who are still upset with how the last trilogy turned out, this has put a major dent on the entire franchise. Star Wars lost many diehards who vowed never to return — they would rather rewatch Lucas’ prequels on repeat.
