Wes Anderson’s Next Film is a “Dark” Espionage with Benicio del Toro in Every Single Shot

June 26, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

In an interview with Le Monde, Wes Anderson gave more details about his next film, still untitled, which he describes as “espionage”.

The filmmaker adds that Benicio del Toro will be in it, in every single shot of the film. So, after much speculation, we can now officially add Del Toro’s name to the cast.

My next feature film will be linear, with Benicio Del Toro in every shot. I can’t tell you much more than that except that it will be about espionage, a father-daughter relationship, and, let’s say, with a rather dark tone.

Earlier this month, Anderson revealed that his next film, aiming to shoot this fall, would feature no more than three main roles, a change from his last character-filled films.

So, we have Michael Cera and Benicio del Toro officially part of the cast. An espionage film that’s also a father-daughter story.

Anderson says that it's a project he pushed back for a long time, possibly from the last decade, but finally forced himself to tackle it. Minimalist casting is always welcome.

Meanwhile, “Asteroid City” did very well at the weekend box-office, nabbing $9 million in just over 1600 screens. That’s excellent, especially for a mid-to-low budget film. Is it now an Oscar contender? Of course not. It’s too divisive a film for that.

Next up is Anderson’s anthology film “The Wonderful World of Henry Sugar” set to be released in November via Netflix.
