Plot Details for Joseph Kosinski’s ‘Formula One’

June 20, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

Joseph Kosinski and Brad Pitt have been following the Formula One itinerary for a few weeks now, they were in Montreal this past weekend for the Canadian Grand Prix.

The reason is that Kosinski/Pitt are currently in pre-production mode on their upcoming “Formula One.” We now know what the story will be about, via Production List:

Brad Pitt plays a Formula One driver who comes out of retirement to mentor a younger driver (Damson Idris), and take his final stab at glory on the track as the younger driver’s teammate.

So, this is basically “Top Gun: Maverick,” but with race cars and Pitt instead of Cruise. Might as well recycle the same formula that brought you great success last year.

The film is set to star Brad Pitt, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, and Damson Idris.

Kosinski proved his worth as the director of ‘Maverick,’ which also earned him a DGA nomination, he’s decided to keep the ambitions high for his next project.

Apple has tagged along for the ride and you can bet it’ll be getting a full-fledged theatrical release next year. No studio has bought the theatrical rights yet, but, whoever does, you can bet it will be making a lot of money.

The ambitions Kosinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer have for this film are quite wild. It turns out they’re creating an 11th team and filming on track and on event for most of the Formula One calendar.

Before “Top Gun: Maverick,” Kosinski was mostly known for directing the Tom Cruise starring sci-fi film “Oblivion,” “Tron: Legacy” and “Only the Brave.” He’s now become one of the most sought-after blockbuster filmmakers in the industry.
