Andy Muschietti to Direct Batman Movie for DCU

June 5, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

Although Matt Reeves has his own separate Batman franchise for Warner Bros, DCU co-chair James Gunn is working on another Caped Crusader project.

Gunn has hired “The Flash” director Andy Muschietti to direct “The Brave and the Bold” for DC Studios. Muschietti has been getting very good notices for ‘Flash’ which is being released in a few weeks.

When Muschietti was promoting his upcoming film in Toronto, he was asked by Narcity what he would do if he had his own Batman film to which he responded, “I don’t think I can talk to that yet”.

The Argentinian-born Muschietti is the filmmaker behind both ‘It’ films and is currently shooting the Max prequel series “Welcome to Derry”. He gained prominence with his 2013 horror film “Mama.”

“The Brave and the Bold” is the third DCU film to have a director attached to its name. Gunn will himself be directing “Superman: Legacy” and James Mangold is helming “Swamp Thing”.

“The Brave and the Bold” is said to follow Batman as he learns to live with his biological son, Damian Wayne, who also happens to be Robin.

So, there you go, another Batman film is on the horizon, the first one with Robin since Joel Schumacher’s 1997 misfire “Batman & Robin.” Nothing has topped Nolan’s “The Dark Knight,” or, while we’re at it, Tim Burton’s unique films, and I doubt this’ll latest project will do it.
