Official: Wes Anderson Set to Shoot New Film This Year, Michael Cera to Star

June 7, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

UPDATED: What a coincidence that I’ve just come out of my second viewing of “Asteroid City” and we now have it confirmed that Anderson will indeed begin shooting his next film.

This is set to be Anderson’s 13th feature. Michael Cera will star. Benicio del Toro and Jeff Goldblum are also rumoured. Cinematographer Robert Yeoman says production will begin later this year on the mysterious project:

I’m out of the loop on that one. But [Wes Anderson] works. He’s a workaholic. I’ll give him that. We jumped right from Asteroid City into the Henry Sugar thing. We were in Spain and then we went to England. He works harder than anybody. He’s just always got something going on. I’m a little more like: take some time off and enjoy my life.

Posted on 05.31.23: Excuse me for being late to this one. Jeff Sneider reported on 05.19.23 that Michael Cera is in talks to join Wes Anderson’s next film. Jeff Goldblum and Benicio del Toro are also rumoured to have been offered roles. Wes has really turned into a workhorse of late. After 2014’s “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” it took him four years to release his next one (“Isle of Dogs”). The times have changed. He’s releasing two films this year — “Asteroid City” and “The Wonderful World of Henry Sugar.” This is either very good or very bad news, depending on who you ask, there’s no in-between. Anderson has become fairly polarizing of late.
