Todd Haynes to Direct Kate Winslet in Upcoming HBO Mini-Series

May 27, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

As most folks were focused on Todd Haynes’ announcement that he was teaming up with Joaquin Phoenix for a 1930s gay-themed film, he also briefly mentioned that he’s working on another project and it sounds just as intriguing.

Here’s an excerpt from an IndieWire interview dated 05.22.23 with Haynes:

I’m going back to work with Kate Winslet with something she brought me for HBO.

Haynes and Winslet working together again is music to my ears.

The filmmaker doesn’t share any further details, but this is great news, as the duo previously worked together on the excellent HBO series, “Mildred Pierce,” more than a decade ago.

“All I can do is just keep hunkering down and committing to each project,” Haynes said. “I have more features planned. I have also episodic projects coming that are planned, that are really exciting.”

Meanwhile, Haynes is coming off the critical acclaim his “May/December” just received at the Cannes Film Festival. In my 05.21 review of the film, I called it Haynes’ best work since 2015’s “Carol.”

His go-to DP Edward Lachmann had to bow out of this one due to a last-minute injury, but I assume he’ll be back for his next few projects. These two are inseparable.
