I had not heard much about writer/director, and actor Julio Torres, but A24 and Tilda Swinton co-signed him for “Problemista,” his feature-length debut. Here’s today’s released trailer.
Torres was a writer for “Saturday Night Live” and as the co-creator, writer, and executive producer of the HBO show “Los Espookys.” His “Problemista,” was the best-reviewed film at this year’s SXSW Film Festival. Keep an eye out for this one.
This is, supposedly, an autobiographical film. Torres stars as an aspiring toy designer from El Salvador struggling to make ends meet in NY. His work visa will soon expire, which leads him to take a job as the assistant to an art-world outcast.
The film stars Torres, Tilda Swinton as the artist he assists, plus RZA, Catalina Saavedra, Larry Owens, Greta Lee, and Isabella Rossellini. A24 will release the film on August 4, 2023.
