‘Dune: Part Two’ Trailer Released ..

May 3, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

As promised on Sunday, we have a trailer.

On a technical level, Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” was wonderful. It was the most concisely visioned-up adaptation of Herbert’s novel.

Last week, I asked readers to chime in with their thoughts on Villeneuve’s 2021 sci-fi epic. The reactions were split. I appreciated the honesty in some comments. The fervent fans of the film have a true passion for it, same as the detractors who refuse to believe it’s anything but a visually-driven nothingburger.

All of this to say that the trailer for “Dune: Part Two” has just dropped. There seems to be less setup and more action in this one. The costumes are impressive. The effects are soaring. All that’s left is for us to watch the damn thing and make up our own minds about it. The first film was one big 150 minute setup for this last chapter.

‘Part Two’ is going to skip the Venice Film Festival and, more than likely, go straight to theaters this coming November. One thing’s for sure, as it was 100% shot on IMAX, it probably needs to be seen on the biggest screen possible.

Villeneuve is the director behind “Arrival,” “Incendies,” “Blade Runner 2049,” “Sicario,” “Prisoners.” All critically-acclaimed, some with massive fan bases. One can certainly say that Villeneuve’s popularity will very soon eclipse fellow rival Christopher Nolan’s — if it hasn’t already.

We’re not really sure what he’ll do next after his “Dune” is completed. There have been rumors that he’s the next Bond director, and he also has his long-gestating “Cleopatra” still in the works.

The “Dune: Part II” cast includes Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skargard, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem and Charlotte Rampling, Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, Lea Seydoux, Christopher Walken and Tim Blake Nelson. It has a November 3rd release date
