We’re still a little over three months away from the release of Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things.”
However, things seem to be reviving up on the promotional front. We have a new Vogue interview with Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone. A poster is also included in the piece — it can be seen at the end of this write-up.
A few weeks ago a “Poor Things” teaser hinted at a lots of visual effects.
It looked dreamy, surreal, deadpan. But also unlike anything Lanthimos has released before. Gilliam influences, most definitely, and a hint of Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s films. Fish eyed lens, anachronistic sci-fi and some low-angled shots The visuals look stunning.
The film stars Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe, Ramy Youssef, Jerrod Carmichael and Christopher Abbott.
Here’s the official synopsis:
The young woman Bella Baxter (Stone) is brought back to life by scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under Baxter's protection, Bella is eager to learn. Wanting to see more of the world, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, and travels across continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella demands equality and liberation.
If you remember, Lanthimos’ last film, 2018’s “The Favorite,” was an absolute success with Oscar, critics and audiences. That one premiered at Venice. We’ve been highly anticipating what Lanthimos was going to serve us next, he’s one of the most interesting filmmakers working today.
