Trailer for Pedro Almodovar’s ‘Strange Way of Life’

April 26, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

Pedro Almodovar’s “Strange Way of Life” is going to the Cannes Film Festival, it’ll be screened on May 17th down on the Croisette.

The director and his two lead actors, Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal, will be in attendance for a post-screening Q&A. We now have a trailer. It looks like total camp Almodovar.

Almodovar’s 30-minute short was rumored to be the opener for the 76th edition of the festival, but that didn’t come to fruition. It’ll instead be screening on the second day of the fest.

Starring Hawke, Pascal and Manu Rios, the film was shot last fall. According to Esquire, the short will center on two former gunslingers (played by Pascal and Hawke) who rekindle an old friendship— “possibly of the romantic variety.”

Almodovar is also set to shoot his first full-length feature in English this fall in NYC. We don’t know much about this film except that it’ll have a female lead.

Almodovar dabbled in English filmmaking with the 2020 short “The Human Voice,” starring Tilda Swinton. That wasn’t a very good movie, but hopefully this one turns out to be better. It does look promising on paper at least.
