Clint Eastwood to Direct ‘Juror #2,’ His “Final Film”

March 30, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

Here’s some great news.

DiscussingFilm is exclusively reporting that Clint Eastwood is working on his next film, it’s titled “Juror #2” and is rumored to star Nicholas Hoult and Toni Collette. The details given are rather specific, which makes me hope this turns out to be factual.

The film would “follow a member of the jury of a murder trial who suspects he may have had some part in the victim’s death and is caught in a moral conundrum of whether to use his secret to sway the jury away and protect himself or turn himself in to the justice system he is participating in”.

Eastwood tackling a legal drama for what could be his “final film” is an interesting twist. There is no indication that he would star in this one like he did in his last film, 2021’s “Cry Macho.”

Yes, DiscussingFilm is saying that the project is being internally billed as Eastwood’s “final film,” but that there’s still a small chance that Eastwood decides to tackle another feature after “Juror #2”. They’re being told that Eastwood’s current plan is to retire completely after the creation of this film. Eastwood will turn 93 this summer.

Warner Bros, who have had a 50-year partnership with Eastwood, are said to be a part of this production. It is well-known now that, when he took over the reigns of the company, David Zaslav was none-too-pleased about the studio greenlighting “Cry Macho,” according to leaked exchanges.

Save for the very-average “Cry Macho,” Eastwood has still been producing quality work as a director these last ten or so years — “The Mule” and “Richard Jewell” in particular.

Eastwood’s best films as a director, to my eyes and ears at least, will always be “The Outlaw Josey Wales,” “High Plains Drifter,” “Mystic River,” “Gran Torino” and, his magnum opus, “Unforgiven.”

EDITED: A few commenters added their best Eastwoods. The above five were just the ones I thought to be his cream of the crop.

I’ll add another five great ones he’s directed: “Million Dollar Baby,” “A Perfect World,” “Tightrope,” “Pale Rider” and, his most underrated movie, “Changeling,”
