Was ‘Cry Macho’ the Final Film of Clint Eastwood’s Career?

March 22, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

A report I published last August is now giving me eerie vibes.

The gist of my piece was that, according to a solid source of mine, Eastwood had pitched a new movie to the David Zaslav-headed Warner and ensuingly got rejected.

A few months before that, a major point of contention for Zaslav was Eastwood’s recent box-office flop, “Cry Macho.” Zaslav was none-too-happy about it bombing in a now leaked conference call, implying that, despite their five-decade allegiance to him, Warners didn’t owe Clint any favors.

Eastwood is turning 93 in two months. Odds are that he only has a couple more films left in him — at most. He’s also released nine films in the last eleven years. He’s worked very fast, hopping from one project to the next at lightning speed.

As far as we know, Eastwood has no project brewing. We’ve even heard reports this week about Eastwood having not been seen publicly in over a year, sparking fears about the health of the 92-year-old actor.

His last movie release was 2021’s “Cry Macho”, which he produced, directed, and starred in. In his 80s, Eastwood directed strong fare such as Richard Jewell, The Mule, Sully, and American Sniper.

Eastwood has been making movies with Warners for over 50 years now. It’s been one of the most trust-worthy and long-lasting director/studio friendships in the industry.

Maybe “Cry Macho” was indeed his last one.
