Ana de Armas Being Considered for Michael Mann’s ‘Heat’ Sequel

March 28, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

Here’s another “Heat 2” scoop from Daniel Richtman.

Ana de Armas is being eyed to play the female lead, Elisa in Michael Mann's sequel for 'Heat.’ De Armas would thus join, also rumored, Al Pacino, Adam Driver, Austin Butler. What a talented cast this could be.

Michael Mann’s “Heat” is a classic of the ‘90s. It even cracked the top 20 in our 1990s critics poll. Mann’s action changed the movie landscape so much that it even turned out to be Christopher Nolan’s main influence when he made “The Dark Knight.”

The film would be an adaptation of Mann’s own published novel which was released last summer. The setting takes place both before and after the original, in the same vein as in The Godfather Part II, largely focusing on Hanna and Chris Shiherlis (the character played in the film by Val Kilmer).

De Armas’ stock has been steadily rising these last few years. She was nominated this past year for her turn as Marilyn Monroe in Andrew Dominik’s “Blonde.”

Meanwhile, Mann’s upcoming $90 million “Ferrari” still has no American distributor. It has been bought for a few European countries, but nobody in the US has taken the rights yet. Maybe its inevitable Venice world premiere will interest a few parties. Let’s just hope it doesn’t get panned on the Lido.

The ‘Heat’ sequel will surely have American distribution. The original has a large fanbase and that cast is too starry to be ignored.

Mann hasn’t released a film since 2015’s “Blackhat.”
