Pixar’s Releasing Their Disney+/Pandemic Movies in Theaters Next Year

December 4, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

UPDATED: The three movies will come to theaters nationwide in 2024. “Soul” is coming to theaters on Jan. 12, “Turning Red” will be on Feb. 9 and “Luca” arrives on March 22.

EARLIER: I’m hearing Pixar will be releasing their straight to Disney+ movies in theaters early next year. Obviously, they should have never sent them to streaming, it watered down their brand. The plan is to have theatrical rollouts for “Soul,” “Turning Red” and “Luca.”

In recent months, Disney CEO Bob Iger admitted regrets in dumping these movies straight to streaming during the pandemic, which devalued the brand and trained audiences to ignore their theatrical releases. Whether this plan to theatrically stamp these three Pixar movies works out remains to be seen.

The best reviewed film of the three was 2020’s “Soul,” which was supposed to have its world premiere at Cannes, but the pandemic hit, the fest got cancelled and they ended up streaming it on Disney+ in December 2020. It ended up winning the Best Animated Oscar the following year.
