Unlike other Marvel endeavours, and despite the well-known pre-production hiccups, Yann Demange’s “Blade” does have potential. The source material, a playful genre hybrid, is grittier than most Marvel material. That’s why it’s great to read, from Demange himself, that the upcoming MCU film will definitely be Rated R (“They gave me the R, which is so important”). Correct me if I’m wrong, but only “Deadpool” and “Logan” have garnered R ratings in the Marvel canon. “Blade” would only be the third time this has ever happened.
