One of the last Oscar contenders left to be seen will screen next week. “The Color Purple” (12.25.23) has screenings in LA on Thursday, November 16th. Warner Bros. released a trailer in October. There is no embargo on social media reactions.
“The Color Purple” has test-screened four times and reactions have been mostly positive. For all of the buzz the film, and Fantasia Barrino’s performance, have been getting, Barrino is said to be outshone by supporting players Danielle Brooks and Taraji P. Henson. That’s been the general attendee consensus for a few months now.
‘Color Purple’ is directed by Blitz Bazawule (“Black Is King,” “The Burial of Kojo”) and produced by Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, Scott Sanders, and Quincy Jones. The film stars Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins, H.E.R, Halle Bailey, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, and Fantasia Barrino.
