Johnny Depp As King Louis XV in Maïwenn’s ‘Jeanne Du Barry’

August 10, 2022 Jordan Ruimy

Maïwenn’s ‘Jeanne Du Barry’, currently filming in France, has decided to release a still of Johnny Depp as King Louis XV.

Blacklisted in Hollywood these last five years, Depp’s comeback film, post-Heard trial, started shooting last month in Versailles and Paris. Production is set to take up Depp’s entire summer. The actor doesn’t have anything else lined up after this, but here’s hoping he gets more projects in due time.

Could you just imagine the Cannes press conference for this one? Despite not being a critical darling, Maïwenn has been a mainstay of the fest for quite a few years now, her last three films (DNA, Mon Roi and Polisse) all screened at the fest.

I doubt Cannes boss Thierry Fremaux would really care if Depp stars in a competition film next year. It seems like an overwhelming amount of the French have sided with Depp who has an admired history with the country, especially after his marriage with French actress Vanessa Paradis.
