No Oscars: Zemeckis/Hanks ‘Pinocchio’ Going Straight to Disney+

June 1, 2022 Jordan Ruimy

We have two Pinocchio adaptations being released this year. There’s Guillermo del Toro darker, fascist-set Netflix epic and then Robert Zemeckis’ “Pinocchio” starring Tom Hanks.

The Zemeckis has been relegated to Disney Plus on September 8th and not to theaters. If they want to qualify for the Oscars, “Pinocchio” has to be released in theaters. It doesn’t look like that is happening.

The film, starring Hanks, Cynthia Erivo, Joseph Gordon Levitt, Keegan Michael Key, and Luke Evans, has just released a trailer.

Bring on the Del Toro version in December.
