Oscars: What Happened to ‘House of Gucci’? Completely Snubbed.

February 8, 2022 Jordan Ruimy

Ridley Scott’s “House of Gucci” was supposed to have this ardent fan base within the industry — what happened? Maybe folks just didn’t like the damn thing. It can’t be far off from the truth, the film garnered mixed reviews upon its release.

But this morning it nabbed no nominations for Best Picture, Director, Actress, Supporting, etc. I would have almost loved to have seen Jared Leto get nominated, alas, zilch. Gaga and Leto campaigned their hearts out this awards season. Anne Thompson had mentioned that Gaga’s campaigning felt nauseating and self-indulgent, which may have turned off some voters.

Fact of the matter is that “House of Gucci” just isn’t very good, it’s watchable, but not Oscar-worthy, that’s for sure. Academy voters must have caught on to that. The real shame is Scott’s “The Last Duel” not getting anything either — at the very least, Ben Affleck’s chewy performance could have snuck in.
