Audrey Diwan’s ‘Emmanuelle’ Will Only Start Production in Late 2023

December 20, 2022 Jordan Ruimy

We can scratch this one off our 2023 anticipated list.

Fresh off her “Happening” winning the Golden Lion at Venice last year, filmmaker Audrey Diwan announced in May she was remaking softcore porn classic “Emmanuelle” with Léa Seydoux.

Now, we’re reading that the film will only start production in the last quarter of 2023. Diwan is currently writing the screenplay with fellow filmmaker Rebecca Zlotowski, with the film expected to go into production towards the end of 2023.

I’ll watch it for the plot, obviously. The source material is based on Emmanuelle Arsan’s 1967 novel. This will also surely be an NC-17 affair. The novel has already been adapted into a film, many sequels and an infamous TV series titled “Emmanuelle in Space.” No word yet on whether Seydoux will be donning a space suit for Diwan’s adaptation.

In all seriousness, we can probably expect a feminist take on Arsan’s erotic novel, especially with all the artists involved in this latest adaptation.
