‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ Wins 12th Best Film Award From Regional Critics Groups

December 22, 2022 Jordan Ruimy

Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan’s “Everything Everywhwere All At Once” has just won the Best Film award from the Florida Film Critics Circle.

Just in case you’re not keeping track, The Daniels’ sci-fi martial-arts multiverse movie has won 12 Best Film honors from religional critics groups: Atlanta, Las Vegas, Los Angeles (TIE), Southeastern, Washington, Utah, St. Louis, Indiana, Dallas, North Texas, Philadelphia and Florida. No other movie comes even remotely close to this amount of wins.

It’s all very odd given that ‘Everything Everywhere’ is actually not the most critically acclaimed movie of the year. According to CriticsTop10, “TÁR” has appeared on more top 10 lists this year. Ditto “The Banshees of Inisherin.” ‘Everything Everywhere’ is third.

Regardless, a major momentum boost has occurred for ‘Everything Everywhere’ these last few weeks, there’s no doubting that. It’s even now at #1 on Gold Derby’s pundits consensus chart. It’s no longer Steven Spielberg’s “The Fabelmans,” which has held on to the top spot since it screened at TIFF in September.

I’m still not sold on ‘Everything Everywhere’ winning Best Picture, I believe that enough AMPAS voters will rebel against it and pave the way for something like “The Banshees of Inisherin,” “Top Gun: Maverick” or even “The Fabelmans” to instead win the big prize.

Some yesterday saw ‘Everything Everywhere’ being snubbed from the VFX and makeup categories as a sign that the Oscar rebellion against this film had indeed started.
