James Cameron Says No Other Director Could Pull Off Making An ‘Avatar’ Movie

December 1, 2022 Jordan Ruimy

Here’s an interesting quote From James Cameron.

Speaking to THR, Cameron is basically saying there is no other director who can pull off what he has made with the “Avatar” movies as the technology is far too complicated for even the most talented of directors:

“Obviously, I’m not going to be able to make ‘Avatar’ movies indefinitely, the amount of energy required […] I would have to train somebody how to do this because, I don’t care how smart you are as a director, you don’t know how to do this.”

He’s right. Cameron is the maestro of technical, VFX-driven filmmaking. He’s been way ahead of the curve for practically three decades now. People tend to forget that, not counting the fairly conventional storytelling, nobody had seen something quite as visually jaw-dropping as “T2 Judgement Day,” “Titanic” and, even “Avatar” when those films came out in their respective years.

That’s why we shouldn’t discount “Avatar: The Way of Water.” Yes, the plot might again not be anything to write home about, but the visuals could turn out to be quite stunning. Cameron might have a penchant for tin-eared dialogue, but he’s always had the eye of a poet.

With “Avatar: The Way of Water,” expectations are sky high for it to be a breathtakingly visual experience, anything other than that will render it a total disappointment.
