Bong Joon-ho’s ‘Mickey7’ Aiming For 2024 Release

November 19, 2022 Jordan Ruimy

Bong Joon-ho’s next film stars Robert Pattinson and is an adaptation of Edward Ashton’s upcoming novel, “Mickey7.” Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette and Mark Ruffalo are also set to co-star.

Production on “Mickey7” began in the UK back in August and will continue until, at least, December. Now we’re hearing that Warner Bros. will be taking their time with this one as a 2024 release is now the target for Bong’s next film.

Just reading about this film, one can imagine that there will be a lot of post-production VFX, which could explain why “Mikey7” isn’t being released next year. I guess we need to take it off our most anticipated list.

The novel’s official synopsis:

“The story follows Mickey7, an Expendable, a disposable employee on a human expedition sent to colonize the ice world Niflheim. Whenever there’s a mission that’s too dangerous—even suicidal—the crew turns to Mickey. After one iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of his memories intact. After six deaths, Mickey7 understands the terms of his deal…and why it was the only colonial position unfilled when he took it.”

After his Cannes and Oscar-winning “Parasite,” Bong is going back to English-language for the first time since his 2017 film, “Okja.” This also seems to be a tonal departure for Bong after the more intimate theatrics of “Parasite,” its definitely his most ambitious project to date.
