Sandra Hüller is in Jonathan Glazer’s ‘The Zone of Interest’

October 17, 2022 Jordan Ruimy

The parents in Jonathan Glazer’s “The Zone of Interest” will be played by award-winning actors Sandra Hüller (Toni Erdmann) and Christian Friedel (Amour Fou).

This inevitably leads to speculation as to whether Glazer’s upcoming holocaust drama will be in Polish and German. This would be the filmmaker’s first non-English film.

I honestly wouldn’t put it past Glazer to try to make “The Zone of Interest” as authentic as possible. The film is being produced by A24 and a Cannes world premiere seems like a no-brainer at this point in time.

Of course, things could change, especially given the intel that I had posted earlier this month about the way the film might be told.

I had learned an exclusive, that Glazer has been in a unique post-production phase on his film. In a nutshell, Glazer was, at the very least, considering the idea of multiple cuts for the film. Perhaps not just different lengths, but maybe also different POVs.

This is set to be Glazer’s first film since 2013’s critically-heralded “Under the Skin.” Lukasz Zal (“Cold War”, “Ida”) is credited as the DP on that one. Glazer is known to take his time in post-production. There was almost a 24-month timeframe between the 2011 shoot of “Under the Skin” and its 2013 world premiere at Telluride.
