An interesting bit of casting.
Blacklisted in Hollywood, Johnny Depp has just been cast by French director Maïwenn to play Louis XV in her next film. Shooting is set to begin in Versailles next summer.
Could you just imagine the Cannes press conference for this one? Despite some critical bashing, Maïwenn has been a mainstay of the fest for quite a few years now, her last three films (DNA, Mon Roi and Polisse) have gotten the stamp of approval from the fest.
Meanwhile, Depp has been deemed persona non grata in Hollywood after being accused of domestic violence by former wife Amber Heard. The irony of the Heard v Depp saga is that, court records eventually showed, she was the person actually comitting the abuse.
Noted socialist community organizer Saul Alinsky once said, Blame your enemy for what you are guilty of”. It seems as though Heard took a page out of his book here.
