It's been more than six years since George Miller gave us his masterpiece, "Mad Max: Fury Road." We all expected his next film to be the ‘Mad Max’ prequel ‘Furiosa,’ alas that project had so many delays, due in part to legal issues, that its future was in limbo for years.
It is now being reported that ‘Furiosa’ is set to start filming in mid-March and wrap in June. That means a lengthy 3.5 month shoot for the film.
Taking on Charlize Theron’s role of Furiosa will be Anya Taylor-Joy. Joining her in the cast will be Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in unspecified roles. Details about the plot are still unknown, but this ‘Furiosa’ prequel will focus on the early days of the character, and how she grew to be the war captain under Immortan Joe.
Miller is 73-years-old, I was concerned that the further this was being delayed, the more unlikely Miller would have the stamina and willingness to embark on making a “Mad Max” sequel, which is a physically demanding endeavour. So today is a great day for ‘Max’ fans.
As you may very well know, “Mad Max: Fury Road” topped our critics poll of 2010s Best Movies. Over 300 critics participated in the survey and, really, this kickstarted the film’s total domination of decade lists for the rest of the year, including also topping the AV Club, Consequence of Sound, Film School Rejects, and Paste lists.
