NYFF Announces Jane Campion’s ‘The Power of Dog’ as Its Centerpiece Selection

July 27, 2021 Jordan Ruimy

The 59th New York Film Festival has made it official. Jane Campion’s “The Power of Dog” will screen there as part of its prestigious Centerpiece slot on October 1st. Before then, it is slated to world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, in early September, and will have its North American premiere a few days after that at Telluride. No word yet on TIFF.

There’s also the already-announced opening night film, Joel Coen’s “The Tragedy of Macbeth.” Lest we forget, I also wrote on 07.19.21 on the likelihood of Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Soggy Bottom” world premiering at NYFF.

My predictions for NYFF: Campion, Coen, Almodovar, Hamaguchi, Weerasethasukul, Sciamma, Anderson, Gomes/Fazendeiro, Baker, Hansen-Love, Ducournau, Terrence Davies, Frammartino, Hong Sang-Soo, Lapid, PTA, Mills.
