‘Allen V Farrow’ Screens …

February 17, 2021 Jordan Ruimy

I want to review Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering‘s four-part  Allen vs. Farrow, even if I’m expecting a biased and one-sided affair. I say, bring it on. I’myt ready to have my mind changed. My psyche is wide open for this moment.

I put down a request for a viewing link of the upcoming HBO Max doc right after I noticed that reviews were dropping earlier in the afternoon. My expectations are that I’ll be denied access to the film and will have to watch it when it premieres on the streaming platform at the end of the month.

Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, Indiewire and the Daily Beast reviews all but confirm that the film definitely pushes the Dylan-and-Mia view of things. And of course, every single review published has not diverted from the party line, they all believe the Farrow side of the story. Indiewire‘s Ben Travers and the Daily Beast‘s Marlow Stern were especially more-than-happy to go along with it. The THR and Variety reviews are a little more subdued, but still politely pro-Farrow.

l am not at all surprised by this. Imagine if a trade like THR or a publication like IndieWire would actually go against the grain and flat out say ‘this documentary is bullshit‘ and ‘it neglects facts and is one-sided”…the backlash would be so overwhelming that there would be calls for the writer to be fired. It’s sad. Unless you operate your own site you’re basically committing career harakiri if you side against woke and #MeToo narratives.”
