More Cannes 2022 Possibilities …

December 23, 2021 Jordan Ruimy

New Cannes 2022 possibilities from Wild Bunch’s announcement of its 2022 titles:

The Innocent — Louis Garrel
Other People's Children — Rebecca Zlotowski
R.M.N — Cristian Mungiu
Holy Spider — Ali Abbasi
Dark Glasses — Dario Argento
Incredible But True — Quentin Dupieux

I’m glad we have a title and update on Cristian Mingiu’s new film. This could be a real player in the European film market, especially with his other notable films (“Loveless” “4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days”) having had some of the healthiest box-office runs in Eastern European cinema history.

Ali Abbasi’s new film came out of nowhere. In 2018, his debut “Border” was heavily celebrated in the Un Certain Regard category. A lot of people predicted his next feature could crack official competition, maybe “Holy Spider” will, it all depends on its quality. If you remember, after his stunning debut “Son of Saul,” Laszlo Nemes’ follow-up, “Sunset,” got rejected by Cannes and eventually premiered at Venice.

In case you missed it, my ever-expanding official list of potential Cannes ‘22 titles:
