Barry Keoghan Cast as Next Joker in Matt Reeves ‘Batman’ Franchise

November 20, 2021 Jordan Ruimy

Barry Keoghan is rumoured to have a quick 5-second cameo as The Joker in Matt Reeves' “The Batman.” This is all set up for him to appear as the main villain in an eventual sequel. This, according to someone who was at a recent test-screening of the upcoming movie.

Keoghan is an Irish actor known for his roles in such movies as “Dunkirk,” “‘71,” “American Animals,” and “The Killing of a Sacred Deer”.

There were hints these last few months that Keoghan could very well play the iconic villain in the as-of-now unannounced “The Batman” sequel. The actor even shared the film's poster on his social media accounts, revealing that he was "proud" of the movie.

Keoghan‘s brother, Eric, also curiously tweeted, and then deleted, a post saying, "So it's finally out My Brother playing the JOKER in the new Batman Unreal Stuff."

The Joker has been played in the past by such renowned actors as Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger, Jared Leto, and Joaquin Phoenix. Both Ledger and Phoenix earned Oscars for their roles.

“The Batman” is set for release on March 4, 2022.
