Saturday is supposed to be a slow news day in the movie biz, but today the long-awaited full-length trailer for Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” grabbed the zeitgeist like thunder. It’s been less than 4 hours since Warner Bros. posted it on YouTube and it already has close to 5 million views.
This is a lost, confused and rage-filled Caped Crusader. Pattinson looks surprisingly well-cast to take on the daunting task of tackling Batman/Bruce Wayne. Also, If I didn't know that the Penguin was Colin Farrell I would never have guessed it. He looks and sounds completely like … Richard Kind.
A few questions worth asking; Why are there clowns? Who is that masked serial killer, speaking via livestream? Is that Dano’s Riddler? Or someone else? There also seems to be a game of cat-and-mouse going on between Batman and Paul Dano’s The Riddler.
Reeves is going for a very interesting look. A lot of warm lighting is used here, akin to how a film noir might look. Greg Fraser (Zero Dark Thirty, Dune) is the credited cinematographer.
As expected, Snyder's latest is being torn apart by TIFF attendees. No mercy given. The film, which had its world premiere this evening, is being called by some one of the worst movies to ever premiere at the festival.
