Barry Jenkins' ‘The Underground Railroad' Set For May 14th Release on Prime [Trailer]

April 15, 2021 Jordan Ruimy

This official trailer for Barry Jenkins’ upcoming series “The Underground Railroad” is set to Nicholas Britell’s original music. Britell contributed the original music for Jenkins’ “Moonlight” and “If Beale Street Could Talk,” plus he’s also responsible for the excellent, Emmy-winning original score for HBO’s “Succession.”

“The Underground Railroad” is Jenkins and Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming adaptation of Colson Whitehead’s 2017 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name. Jenkins directed all nine episodes of the limited series. Cast members include Thuso Mbedu, Chase W. Dillon, and Joel Edgerton.

Jenkins announced last December that production on “The Underground Railroad” wrapped after a lengthy 116-day shoot. Wowza. I’m very much looking forward to this one. Especially with Jenkins directing all of the episodes.

“The Underground Railroad” is set to be released on May 14th. It’s easily the most-anticipated TV event of the year. Amazon’s synopsis for “The Underground Railroad” reads:

“The limited series chronicles young Cora’s (Mbedu) journey as she makes a desperate bid for freedom in the antebellum South. After escaping her Georgia plantation for the rumored Underground Railroad, Cora discovers no mere metaphor, but an actual railroad full of engineers and conductors, and a secret network of tracks and tunnels beneath the Southern soil.”
