Evangeline Lilly Refuses to Self-Isolate, Claims COVID-19 Is An Election Year Conspiracy

March 19, 2020 Jordan Ruimy

Another prophetic detail Steven Soderbergh’s “Contagion” got right was the flurry of conspiracy theories that would unfurl online about the pandemic.

On the one hand, you have celebrities such as Tom Hanks, Idris Elba, and Olga Kurylenko having been infected with the virus, but then on the other, there’s Evangeline Lilly, one of the stars of Marvel Studios’ ‘Ant-Man’ franchise, who is clearly peeved off by the over-the-top reaction that’s been happening in the States, with business shutdowns and social distancing becoming the norm.

In a recent post on Instagram, Lilly shared controversial thoughts on the pandemic, writing, “Just dropped my kids off at gymnastics camp. They all washed their hands before going in. They are playing and laughing. #businessasusual.” However, after people commented on the post and shared their concerns about Lilly going about “business as usual” during a time when that is being discouraged by world governments, the actress clarified her original comments and was even more opinionated:

“I am also immune compromised at the moment,” she wrote to a fan. “I have two young kids. Some people value their lives over freedom, some people value freedom over their lives. We all make our choices.”

“Where we are right now feels a lot too close to Marshall Law [sic] for my comfort already, all in the name of a respiratory flu.” Lilly added in another reply, “It’s unnerving…Let’s be vigilant right now. And kind. Watchful and gracious — keeping a close eye on our leaders, making sure they don’t abuse this moment to steal away more freedoms and grab more power.”

“There’s ‘something’ every election year,” she suggested.

That last quote is what’s gotten some people riled up. The mere suggestion that the global powers-that-be might be behind this virus is enough to blow up a few heads on social media.
