Lionsgate has set a March 19, 2021, wide-release date for 'The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent', the meta action-comedy which stars Nicolas Cage as a version of himself trying to land a Tarantino role but, accidentally, landing a job with the CIA instead.
Creatively unfulfilled and facing financial ruin, the fictionalized version of Cage must accept a $1 million offer to attend the birthday of a super fan. When things take a wildly dangerous turn, Cage is forced to live up to his own legend, channeling his most iconic and beloved on-screen characters in order to save himself and his loved ones.
According to THR, “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent,” was written by Tom Gormican and Kevin Etten, with the latter also the director. The two men’s credits aren’t too good, they’ve worked on TV fare such as “Reaper,” “Workaholics,” “Scrubs,” and “Ghosted.” As for the film, it’s moving closer to production, but we’ll have to wait and see if it turns out to be as good as it sounds on paper, especially with a B-level writer (Gormican) and director (Ettenn) attached to the whole thing.
