I will try to have a recap of Kevin Feige’s MCU Phase 4 presentation at Comic-Con San Diego up within the next 24 hours or so. However, I do want to, out of the gate, mention the surprise Feige announcement today that Mahershala Ali was going to play “Blade.” Unlike the rest of the Phase 4 lineup announced today by Feige, “Blade” doesn’t have an official release date (although a 2022 date is being rumored as we speak).
I personally didn’t need another ‘Blade’ movie, the first two were more than enough, however, no offense to Wesley Snipes, who was absolutely seminal in the late-’90s as the blood-sucking hero, but two-time Oscar winner Ali replacing him is a cinematic offer I just can’t refuse. Now, the question remains, who will direct it? Guillermo del Toro did a noble job with “Blade 2,” but I can’t see him selling his soul to Disney .. just yet.
