Poster for Quentin Tarantino's upcoming ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood'

Editor’s note: Backlash has ensued, not to mention countless memes, since the poster was released very early this morning. I mean, listen, QT has said this is the movie that comes closest to the style of “Pulp Fiction” . This will not be a fetish-driven movie ala ”Kill Bill,” “Django Unchained” or “Inglourious Basterds.” “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood” could very well be a quintessential 1990's era QT. Lots of character development, talky, realistic violence etc. That’s a good thing.

Quentin Tarantino’s ninth movie as writer-director will be released this coming July, and will have its world premiere, according to my sources, at the Cannes Film Festival in May. Columbia Pictures has released the first “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” poster, meaning a trailer isn’t too far behind as well.

The film takes place in 1969 and stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Western TV actor that, alongside his trusty stunt double, played by Brad Pitt, is seeing his star fade and tries to keep hold of his crumbling TV career. Oh, and they also live next door to Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie) — the film takes place the same year the actress, Roman Polanski’s late wife, was brutally murdered by members of Charlie Manson’s cult.

Tarantino has mentioned that the film is the closest he’s ever come to replicating the style of “Pulp Fiction.” The director is coming off the least successful movie of his career at the box-office, 2015’s “The Hateful Eight,” which also happens to be a damn fine movie that was overlooked by critics and audiences alike. It’ll stand the test of time, that I am sure of.

“Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood” opens in theaters on July 26th and the cast includes (deep breath) Al Pacino, Timothy Olyphant, Burt Reynolds, Scoot McNairy, Damian Lewis, Luke Perry, Dakota Fanning, James Marsden, Clifton Collins, Keith Jefferson, Emile Hirsch, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Danny Strong, Sydney Sweeney, Clu Gulager, James Landry Hébert, Mikey Madison, Lena Dunham, Maya Hawke, and Nicholas Hammond, among others
