Harvey Weinstein Walked into a New York Bar and Then All Hell Broke Loose

October 25, 2019 Jordan Ruimy

Thanks to Buzzfeed for reporting about this insane encounter on 25th and 2nd in New York City at Downtime bar in the Lower East Side. Disgraced former Miramax head honcho, and now #MeToo poster boy, Harvey Weinstein, was out on the town, having dinner, but was then shouted at by a female protester.

Despite Weinstein trying to have a low-key evening at the Downtime Bar event, which supported young artists, the evening’s performers also did not hold back in calling out Weinstein onstage. Comedian Kelly Bachman called out Weinstein onstage, deeming him “the elephant in the room” and “Freddie Krueger” during her set.

Said the report, “Weinstein turned up with an entourage to watch Actor’s Hour, a monthly event ‘dedicated to artists’ at the Downtime bar in the Lower East Side.” According to Buzzfeed, His appearance resulted in an angry woman comedian getting booed and two attendees being thrown out of the bar after they protested his appearance.

I’m not sure if hers was a self-aware and purposeful act to insert herself into the news cycle, the video did go viral, but I am really pondering the idea that the actions depicted in the video below, even perpetrated towards a monster like Harvey Weinstein, can be somewhat detracting and unnecessary to the overall cause? Let a court of law judge the man (for horrifying crimes he may most certainly be guilty of). I just don’t think confrontation is necessary here. Then again, I’m not a very confrontational human being, so it may just be me.

Weinstein is set to stand trial in New York this January over rape allegations.
