Christian Bale won Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for "Vice" and thanked “Satan” for helping him nail the role of former Vice President Dick Cheney in his Golden Globe acceptance speech.
"Look at all of us! A bunch of lucky buggers," "Vice" star Christian Bale said to the audience accepting the award. "Thank you to Satan for giving me inspiration" to play former vice president Dick Cheney in the film, he jokes, and also asks who his next "charisma-free role" will be: "Mitch McConnell, maybe?"
The Church of Satan, a religious organization dedicated to Satanism, celebrated Christian Bale's win by taking the opportunity to send in a shout out to Lucifer himself “To us, Satan is a symbol of pride, liberty and individualism, and it serves as an external metaphorical projection of our highest personal potential,” the organization wrote. “As Mr. Bale’s own talent and skill won him the award, this is fitting. Hail Christian! Hail Satan!”
The film is at its best when it’s simply being loud and messy — which isn’t enough of the time. And it’s fitting that a movie about The Sun should feel exactly that way.
